Accuracy & Scanning
Q: How accurate are RENDR scans?
A: RENDR is designed to create highly accurate as-built floor plans using the LiDAR sensors built into supported iPhone Pro and iPad Pro devices. When scanned using recommended techniques, most residential projects fall within approximately 1% of actual dimensions, which is near the practical limit of mobile LiDAR technology.
Individual rooms are often accurate to within about an inch, while larger homes may experience slightly greater cumulative variance across long distances.
More importantly, RENDR isn’t just a scanner—it’s an editing platform. After scanning, Flex allows you to review, refine, and validate your floor plan before exporting it, giving you confidence in the final result.
Q: We need quarter-inch accuracy. Is RENDR precise enough?
A: Yes—with the right workflow.
No mobile LiDAR scanner is intended to replace every final verification measurement. Instead, RENDR dramatically reduces the amount of manual measuring required during the site visit.
Most remodelers use RENDR to capture nearly all existing conditions in minutes, then use Flex to refine the floor plan, verify critical measurements, and document anything that requires additional precision. For fabrication-critical dimensions—such as custom cabinetry, countertops, or specialty millwork—many professionals still confirm those measurements before production.
The result is far fewer measurements in the field, fewer return trips, and dramatically faster documentation.
Q: What if my scan doesn’t look right?
A: Most scan issues can be corrected without starting over.
If walls, rooms, doors, or windows aren’t exactly where you expect them to be, simply open the project in Flex. You can adjust walls, reshape rooms, move or resize openings, edit objects, update flooring, and make other refinements before exporting.
If the scan itself is significantly distorted, reviewing the recommended scanning techniques—or rescanning the affected area—will usually resolve the issue.
Q: How can I get the most accurate scan?
A: Following good scanning practices makes a significant difference.
For best results:
Walk at a steady pace.
Keep the device pointed toward the walls—not the floor or ceiling.
Avoid excessive up-and-down movement.
Ensure the space is well lit.
Move continuously through connected rooms.
Avoid repeatedly doubling back over the same area.
If a scan still needs refinement, Flex provides editing tools that allow you to make adjustments before exporting.
Editing & Documentation
Q: Can I edit my floor plan after scanning?
A: Absolutely.
Flex is designed to let you refine your floor plan after the scan is complete.
Depending on your subscription, you can edit walls, rooms, flooring, doors, windows, objects, measurements, and more before exporting your plans.
This allows you to clean up scans, document changes, and produce polished as-built drawings without needing to rescan the property.
Q: Can RENDR capture light switches, outlets, trim, soffits, bulkheads, and other fine details?
A: RENDR captures the structure of the space first, then gives you tools to document the details.
While mobile LiDAR isn’t intended to automatically recognize every outlet, switch, trim profile, or architectural feature, Flex makes it easy to capture those items as part of your documentation workflow.
You can:
Add field notes
Place markup directly on the floor plan
Attach photos to specific locations
Add measurements
Place or edit objects
Document installation notes and existing conditions
Rather than relying on automatic recognition, RENDR combines an accurate floor plan with rich project documentation so everything stays organized in one place.
Q: Does RENDR automatically recognize objects?
A: Yes.
RENDR automatically detects many common objects, including plumbing fixtures, appliances, furniture, stairs, and other features.
Detected objects can be reviewed and edited in Flex, and additional objects can be added manually when needed.
Object recognition continues to improve as RENDR evolves.
Q: How are doors and windows handled?
A: RENDR automatically detects many doors and windows during scanning.
If something isn’t detected correctly—or if changes are needed—you can edit, move, resize, add, or remove doors and windows in Flex before exporting.
Q: Can I rename rooms?
A: Yes.
Room names can be edited on both iOS and Web.
Keeping room names organized is especially helpful when using integrations, exporting reports, or sharing projects with other team members.
Projects & Data
Q: Can I scan multiple rooms or multiple floors?
A: Yes.
Each floor should be scanned as its own Space within the same Project.
You can scan an entire floor continuously, or scan individual rooms separately and organize them together within a project.
Q: What information does RENDR capture besides the floor plan?
A: Every scan captures much more than wall geometry.
Depending on your workflow, RENDR stores:
Room dimensions
Wall measurements
Ceiling heights
Wall elevations
Doors and windows
Flooring
Objects
Photos
Room parameters
Measurements
Project organization
This information is available throughout RENDR and can also be exported or shared through supported integrations.
Q: Can I use RENDR without CAD software?
A: Absolutely.
Many contractors use RENDR exclusively for documenting existing conditions, taking measurements, organizing photos, estimating projects, and creating client documentation.
Others use RENDR as the starting point for CAD workflows, estimating software, or production management through integrations.
Exporting & Integrations
Q: What export formats are available?
A: Available exports depend on your subscription and workflow, but RENDR supports exports including:
PDF floor plans
DXF
2020 Design XML
Chief Architect (.room)
Reports
Images
API access for Enterprise customers
New export options and integrations continue to be added.
Q: What software integrates with RENDR?
A: RENDR integrates with a growing ecosystem of contractor software, including estimating, design, and production platforms.
Current integrations and export formats are listed in the Integrations section of the Knowledge Base and continue to expand over time.
Devices & Compatibility
Q: Does RENDR work on Android?
A: Not currently.
RENDR requires LiDAR hardware, which is currently available on supported iPhone Pro and iPad Pro devices.
Q: Can I scan unfinished spaces?
A: Yes, although finished surfaces generally produce the best results.
Open framing, exposed studs, reflective insulation, and other unfinished materials can make wall detection more difficult. If scanning unfinished spaces, expect that additional editing in Flex may be helpful.
Q: Can RENDR capture angled walls and vaulted ceilings?
A: Yes.
RENDR captures complex room geometry, including angled walls, vaulted ceilings, sloped ceilings, and varying ceiling heights.
Depending on the export format and destination software, some geometry may be simplified based on the capabilities of that application.
General
Q: How is RENDR different from Matterport?
A: Matterport is designed primarily for creating immersive 3D walkthroughs.
RENDR is built specifically for remodelers, contractors, estimators, and designers who need accurate existing-condition floor plans—not virtual tours.
By combining fast mobile scanning with powerful editing tools, documentation features, and integrations, RENDR helps contractors move from site visit to proposal, design, and production significantly faster.
