This technology is crucial for RENDR to capture interior space data quickly and accurately.
Compatible Devices
RENDR is currently only available on iOS Pro devices that have a LiDAR sensor. This includes:
iPhone Pro models with LiDAR.
iPad Pro models with LiDAR.
Many contractors invest in an iPad Pro for their sales team, similar to how they would invest in other essential tools. An iPad Pro provides a larger screen which can be useful on-site for reviewing scans, marking up PDFs with an Apple Pencil, and more.
Why RENDR Uses LiDAR
RENDR utilizes LiDAR technology to quickly gauge measurements in any interior space and instantly map it out right before your eyes. This technology is key to achieving RENDR's speed and accuracy. RENDR is described as being as accurate as mobile LiDAR scanning technology can get.
The stated accuracy for single-room scans is typically within an inch, often to the nearest inch. For larger spaces or multi-room scans, you may notice a variance of a few inches in some areas. Overall, scans are said to provide measurements typically within 1% of actual dimensions and offer 99%+ accuracy.
It's important to understand that RENDR's accuracy is generally sufficient for the sales process and for getting to the budget conversation sooner. However, RENDR is not intended to replace a precise field measure for capturing critical data. Critical dimensions, such as those for cabinets, windows, and doors, should still be verified on-site. This process, known as the "concept measure" approach, allows you to capture comprehensive data quickly upfront using RENDR and perform detailed site measurements later if needed, after the job is moving forward.
How to Check if Your iOS Device Has LiDAR
A simple way to check if an iOS device has LiDAR is to look for three cameras and a small sensor on the back of the device. If your iPhone Pro or iPad Pro has this sensor configuration, it is likely LiDAR-capable.
Why RENDR is Not Available on Android
RENDR is currently only available on iOS devices because Android devices generally do not have the necessary LiDAR sensors. While RENDR definitely wants to get on Android, they are waiting for a more widespread adoption of LiDAR hardware within Android devices before releasing an Android version to preserve the commitment to accuracy for contractors estimates and designs.
Using Invite to Capture with Clients
The Invite to Capture feature allows you to remotely invite someone, like a homeowner or project manager, to scan a space using their compatible iOS device. The invitee does not need their own RENDR subscription. The scan data is automatically sent to your RENDR account once completed.
To determine if a client's iPhone is compatible for this feature, you can simply ask them if their iPhone has three cameras on the back. If they confirm this, their device likely has the LiDAR sensor required for the Invite to Capture feature to work.
In summary, RENDR's reliance on LiDAR on compatible iOS Pro devices enables its speed and accuracy for preliminary measurements and estimating, while the Invite to Capture feature extends this capability by leveraging LiDAR on a client's device to save you time and travel.
