  • When to save your floor plan

  • How Undo and Redo work

  • What happens when you leave the editor

  • How Flex handles unsaved changes

Overview

As you edit a floor plan, your changes exist only in your current editing session until you save them.

To avoid losing work, make it a habit to save regularly—especially before closing the editor, switching devices, or exporting your project.

RENDR Principle

Save early. Save often.

Undo is for correcting mistakes.

Saving is what permanently records your work.

Saving Your Work

Select Save whenever you’ve completed a meaningful set of edits.

Saving records changes such as:

  • Wall edits

  • Door, window, and opening changes

  • Flooring edits

  • Object placement

  • Room names

  • Measurements

  • Markup

  • Space information

Once saved, those changes become the current version of your floor plan.

When Should I Save?

We recommend saving:

  • After completing major wall edits.

  • Before exporting.

  • Before closing the editor.

  • Before switching to another device.

  • Before leaving a jobsite.

  • Anytime you’ve completed an important milestone.

💡 Pro Tip

Get into the habit of saving every few minutes while making significant edits. It’s much easier to save periodically than to recreate work if your editing session is interrupted.

What Happens If I Don’t Save?

Unsaved edits exist only in your current editing session.

If you accidentally:

  • Close the app

  • Force quit the editor

  • Lose power or battery

  • Restart your device

  • Experience an unexpected crash

any edits that have not been saved will be lost.

Flex will warn you before intentionally leaving the editor with unsaved changes, but it cannot recover edits from an interrupted session that were never saved

Leaving the Editor

If you attempt to leave the editor with unsaved changes, Flex will ask how you’d like to continue.

Depending on your platform, you’ll be able to:

  • Save and Exit

  • Exit Without Saving

  • Cancel and continue editing

This safeguard helps prevent accidentally discarding your work.

Undo & Redo

Undo and Redo allow you to move backward and forward through your recent edits.

Nearly every editing action creates an undo point, including:

  • Wall edits

  • Vertex movement

  • Door and window edits

  • Flooring changes

  • Object movement

  • Renaming

  • Markup edits

Undo restores the previous state of the floor plan, including any connected geometry that changed as part of the edit.

Platform Notes

Web

Use the Undo, Redo, and Save buttons in the editor toolbar.

The Save button is enabled whenever the floor plan contains unsaved changes.

If you attempt to close the editor or export with unsaved edits, Flex prompts you to save first.

iPhone & iPad

Tap Save in the navigation bar whenever you’ve completed important edits.

Undo and Redo are available from the navigation bar. When using an external keyboard:

  • ⌘ + Z — Undo

  • ⌘ + Shift + Z — Redo

If you attempt to close the editor or swipe back with unsaved changes, Flex prompts you to save, discard your changes, or continue editing.

Exporting with Unsaved Changes

If you begin an export while your project contains unsaved edits, Flex will ask whether you’d like to:

  • Save and Export

  • Export Without Saving

  • Cancel and return to editing

This allows you to choose whether the export should include your latest changes.

Recovering Previous Versions

If you’ve accidentally saved unwanted changes—or need to recover an earlier version of your floor plan—contact RENDR Customer Support.

In many cases, we can restore a previously saved version of your space.

Note: Only previously saved versions may be recoverable. Unsaved edits cannot be restored.

Best Practices

  • Save after completing major edits.

  • Save before leaving the app for any reason.

  • Save before switching devices.

  • Save before exporting.

  • Use Undo and Redo freely while editing.

Common Mistakes

Closing the App Without Saving

Always save before closing the editor. If the app closes unexpectedly, any unsaved edits will be lost.

Assuming Changes Save Automatically

Flex tracks unsaved edits and warns you before exiting, but it does not automatically save your work.

Waiting Until the End of a Long Editing Session

Long editing sessions increase the amount of work that could be lost if the session is interrupted. Save periodically instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Flex save automatically?

No.

Flex tracks unsaved changes and warns you before leaving the editor, but you are responsible for saving your work.

Can I undo multiple edits?

Yes.

Undo and Redo work through your recent editing history.

What if I accidentally lose my work?

If your edits were never saved, they cannot be recovered.

If you need an earlier saved version of your space, contact RENDR Customer Support. We may be able to restore a previous version of the project.
