  • How to save changes on iPhone and iPad

  • How to tell when there is nothing new to save

  • What happens when you close a Space with unsaved changes

Overview

Changes made in the Flex editor must be saved before they become the saved version of the Space.

Flex tracks whether the current floor plan differs from its last saved state.

When changes are waiting to be saved, Flex can warn you before you:

  • Close the editor

  • Return to the previous page

  • Export from Web

Flex 3.0 does not include a documented Save as Version workflow in the current Flex editor.

RENDR Principle

Save after completing meaningful edits and before closing or exporting your Space.

Saving on Web

To save changes on Web:

  1. Open the desired Space.

  2. Make the necessary edits.

  3. Select Save in the upper-right corner.

  4. Review the confirmation message.

  5. Confirm that you want to save your Flex edits.

  6. Wait for the Saved confirmation.

Saving updates the Space with the current Flex floor-plan data.

If nothing has changed since the last save, Flex skips the save because there is no new work to commit.

💡 Pro Tip: Save after completing a logical group of changes, such as wall corrections, room updates, flooring work, or opening placement.

Saving on iPhone or iPad

To save changes on iOS:

  1. Open the desired Space.

  2. Make the necessary edits.

  3. Select Save in the navigation bar.

  4. Wait for the save to complete.

The Save button is greyed out when the Space has no unsaved changes.

Before saving, Flex includes any pending 2D vertex edits in the floor-plan data being saved.

How to Tell Whether Changes Need to Be Saved

On Web

Flex compares the current floor plan with the last saved floor plan.

When the current model has changed, the Space is treated as having unsaved changes.

If no changes are detected, selecting Save does not create another save operation.

On iPhone or iPad

The Save button is available when changes need to be saved.

When the current Space is clean, the Save button is greyed out.

Closing a Space with Unsaved Changes

Flex checks for unsaved changes when you attempt to leave the editor.

Closing on Web

If you use the Back or Close action while changes remain unsaved, Flex presents three options:

Save and Close

  1. Flex saves the current edits.

  2. The editor closes after the save action.

Choose this when you want to keep your changes.

Close Without Saving

  1. The editor closes.

  2. The unsaved changes are not saved.

Choose this only when you intentionally want to leave without preserving the current edits.

Cancel

  1. The warning closes.

  2. You remain in the editor.

  3. No save or close action occurs.

Choose this when you want to review or continue editing.

Closing on iPhone or iPad

If you select the Close button while changes remain unsaved, Flex presents three options:

Save & Exit

Flex saves the current edits and exits the editor.

Discard

Flex exits without saving the current edits.

Cancel

Flex keeps the editor open without saving or exiting.

When unsaved changes exist, swipe-back navigation is blocked so the Space cannot be left without making one of these choices.

Exporting with Unsaved Changes on Web

If you begin an export on Web while the Space contains unsaved changes, Flex presents three options:

Save and Export

  1. Flex saves the current edits.

  2. The export continues using the saved project data.

Choose this when the export should include your latest changes.

Export Without Saving

  1. Flex continues the export without first saving the current edits.

  2. The current editor changes remain unsaved.

Choose this only when you intentionally do not want to save the current edits before exporting.

Cancel

  1. The export is cancelled.

  2. You remain in the editor.

  3. The current changes remain unsaved.

Choose this when you want to review or save the project before continuing.

💡 Recommended Workflow

When your latest edits should appear in the exported file, choose Save and Export.

For instructions about a specific export format, visit the corresponding export article:

  • Exporting a PDF

  • Exporting to Chief Architect

  • Exporting a DXF

  • Exporting to 2020

  • Exporting to ProKitchen

  • Exporting a RENDR Archive

  • Exporting to THD Draw, when available for your account

Saving Before Exporting on iPhone or iPad

The iOS editor provides the Save action and an Export menu.

Before beginning an export:

  1. Complete your floor-plan edits.

  2. Confirm that the Save button is available.

  3. Select Save when changes are waiting.

  4. Wait for the save to complete.

  5. Open Export.

  6. Select the required export format.

  7. Follow the instructions for that export.

Available iOS export formats documented for Flex 3.0 include:

  • PDF

  • Chief Architect

  • 2020 XML

  • ProKitchen

  • DXF

  • RENDR Archive

  • THD Draw for entitled accounts

Refer to the dedicated article for the selected format when additional export settings are available.

Recommended Saving Workflow

Use this process during an editing session:

  1. Open the Space.

  2. Make a logical group of edits.

  3. Review the affected floor-plan area.

  4. Select Save.

  5. Confirm that the save completes.

  6. Continue editing.

  7. Save again after another meaningful group of changes.

  8. Save before closing the Space.

  9. Save before exporting when the export should include the latest edits.

What Saving Does Not Do

Saving does not create a separately named project version in the current documented Flex 3.0 editor.

The inventories do not document:

  • Save as Version

  • Named versions

  • Version notes

  • A version-history browser

  • A version comparison workflow

  • Restoring a prior Flex version from inside the editor

Do not rely on those workflows unless they are introduced in a later release and separately documented.

Support Clues

Problem

Recommended Action

The Save button is greyed out on iOS.

The Space currently has no detected unsaved changes. Make an edit before trying to save again.

Nothing happens when I try to save on Web.

Confirm that the floor plan has changed since its last save. Web skips the save when nothing has changed.

Web asks me to confirm the save.

This is expected. Confirm the Save your Flex edits? dialog to continue.

I see an unsaved-changes warning when closing.

Choose the save-and-close option to preserve your changes, the discard option to leave without saving, or Cancel to remain in the editor.

I cannot swipe back on iPhone or iPad.

Swipe-back is blocked while unsaved changes exist. Use Close and choose Save & Exit, Discard, or Cancel.

Web asks whether to save before exporting.

Choose Save and Export when the export should include your latest edits.

I closed without saving.

Reopen the Space and check its current state. Changes made after the last successful save may not be present.

I cannot find Save as Version.

Save as Version is not documented as part of the current Flex 3.0 editor.

I need help with a specific CAD export.

Open the dedicated Help Center article for that export format.

Best Practices

💡 Save after completing each meaningful group of edits.

💡 Wait for the save to complete before closing the editor.

💡 Choose Save and Export on Web when the exported file must include your latest edits.

💡 Review your floor plan before saving and exporting.

💡 Use Discard or Close Without Saving only when you intentionally want to abandon the current changes.

💡 Do not assume that closing the browser or app automatically saves the current editing session.

Common Mistakes

Closing Without Saving

Choosing Discard or Close Without Saving leaves the editor without saving the current changes.

Ignoring the Close Warning

Read the available actions carefully.

The save option preserves the current edits. The discard option exits without saving them.
