  • How to annotate photos on iPhone and iPad

  • How to select, share, save, and delete photos

Overview

Photos preserve field conditions that a floor plan cannot fully communicate.

Use photos to document:

  • Cabinet and appliance layouts

  • Door and window details

  • Mechanical equipment

  • Finish materials

  • Existing damage or unusual conditions

  • Architectural details

  • Information that may be important after leaving the jobsite

Photos are associated with the current Space, allowing you to review visual context alongside its floor plan.

RENDR Principle

Use the floor plan to document geometry. Use photos to document everything the geometry cannot show.

Opening the Photos Panel

On Web

  1. Open the desired Space.

  2. Confirm that the plan is displayed in 2D.

  3. Select Photos from the navigation panel.

  4. Choose a thumbnail to open the photo viewer.

The Photos panel is hidden while the plan is displayed in 3D.

Return to 2D before opening Photos.

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the desired Space.

  2. Open the Photos panel.

  3. Tap a thumbnail to open the photo carousel.

The iOS Photos workflow supports:

  • Adding photos

  • Viewing photos

  • Selecting multiple photos

  • Deleting photos

  • Sharing or exporting photos

  • Saving photos to the device

  • Annotating photos

Adding Photos

Adding a Photo on Web

Web currently accepts JPEG images and processes one photo per upload.

To add a photo:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Select Add Photo.

  3. Choose one JPEG image.

  4. Wait for the upload to complete.

  5. Confirm that the photo appears in the gallery.

After a successful upload, Flex re-fetches the Space so the new photo can be displayed.

To add another photo, repeat the process.

🚫 Avoid This

Do not choose a non-JPEG file. The current Web uploader accepts JPEG images only and processes one image per upload.

Adding Photos on iPhone or iPad

Photos can be added from:

  • The device camera

  • The Photo Library

To add a photo:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Choose the available option to add a photo.

  3. Select Camera or Photo Library.

  4. Capture or choose a photo.

  5. Allow the upload to complete.

  6. Confirm that the photo appears in the gallery.

A Space supports up to 24 photos in the current iOS workflow.

The Photos panel may display an upload-status badge while a photo is still syncing.

💡 Pro Tip: Before leaving the jobsite, confirm that all new photos have finished uploading.

Viewing Photos on Web

To open a photo:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Select a thumbnail.

  3. Review the photo in the Web lightbox.

From the lightbox, you can:

  • Move to the previous or next photo

  • Use the Left and Right Arrow keys to navigate

  • Wrap from the final photo back to the first

  • Wrap from the first photo back to the final photo

  • Zoom from 1× to 3×

  • Adjust zoom in 0.25× increments

  • Pan while zoomed above 1×

  • Return to 1:1 viewing size

  • Press Escape to close the viewer

  • View an annotation overlay when one is available

Changing to another photo resets the zoom and pan position.

Navigating the Web Photo Viewer

Moving Between Photos

To move through the gallery:

  1. Open a photo in the lightbox.

  2. Use the on-screen Previous or Next controls.

You can also use:

  • Left Arrow — Previous photo

  • Right Arrow — Next photo

  • Escape — Close the viewer

Navigation wraps around at the beginning and end of the gallery.

Zooming

To inspect a photo more closely:

  1. Open the photo in the lightbox.

  2. Use the zoom controls.

  3. Increase or decrease the zoom as needed.

The Web viewer supports zoom levels from 1× to 3× in 0.25× increments.

Use the 1:1 control to return the image to its normal viewing size.

Panning

Panning is available when the photo is zoomed above 1×.

To pan:

  1. Increase the zoom level.

  2. Press on the image.

  3. Drag to another portion of the photo.

  4. Release when the desired area is visible.

Viewing Photos on iPhone or iPad

To view photos on iOS:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Tap a thumbnail to open the photo carousel.

  3. Swipe left or right to move between photos.

  4. Pinch to zoom.

  5. Pan around a zoomed image.

  8. Close the carousel when finished.

The Photos panel may display:

  • Upload-status badges

  • Annotation badges

  • Download spinners

Annotating a Photo on iPhone or iPad

Photo annotation allows you to call attention to details inside an image without adding those notes to the floor plan.

To annotate a photo:

  1. Open the photo in the iOS carousel.

  2. Open the photo-annotation workflow.

  3. Use the available PDF-style markup tools.

  4. Complete the annotation workflow.

  5. Return to the photo gallery.

  6. Confirm that the annotated photo displays an annotation badge.

When an annotated version is available, Web can display the annotation overlay when the photo is opened there.

Web may also display the annotated thumbnail in the gallery.

Common Uses for Photo Annotation

Photo annotation is useful for:

  • Circling existing damage

  • Pointing to plumbing or electrical locations

  • Identifying materials that need to be replaced

  • Highlighting installation concerns

  • Calling attention to details for an estimator or production team

💡 Pro Tip: Use floor-plan Markup when the note belongs to a location on the plan. Use photo annotation when the note belongs to a visible condition inside the image.

Selecting Multiple Photos on iPhone or iPad

The iOS Photos panel includes a multi-select workflow.

To manage several photos:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Enter Select mode.

  3. Tap each photo you want to include.

  4. Choose the desired action.

Selected photos can be:

  • Deleted

  • Exported or shared through the iOS share workflow

This workflow is useful when several photos need to be sent or removed together.

Saving a Photo to Your Device

To save a photo on iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the photo in the carousel.

  2. Choose the available save-to-device action.

  3. Wait for the save to complete.

A download spinner may appear while the photo is being saved.

Deleting Photos

Deleting a Photo on Web

To delete one photo:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Hover over the desired thumbnail.

  3. Select the trash icon.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

After deletion, Flex re-fetches the Space so the gallery can update.

Deleting Photos on iPhone or iPad

To delete one or several photos:

  1. Open the Photos panel.

  2. Enter Select mode.

  3. Select the desired photos.

  4. Choose Delete.

  5. Confirm the action when prompted.

Only the selected photos are removed.

Using Photos While Editing

Photos are useful when plan geometry alone does not provide enough visual context.

Use them to review:

  • Door swing and style

  • Window type and trim

  • Cabinet configuration

  • Fixture and appliance locations

  • Existing finishes

  • Mechanical obstructions

  • Field conditions around walls or openings

Photos and PDF Export

Photos are not currently included as an option in the Flex floor-plan PDF export.

The available PDF export options apply to plan information rather than the Space photo gallery.

When photos need to be shared separately, use the iOS selection and share workflow.

Best Practices

💡 Capture wide room views before taking detail photos.

💡 Confirm that uploads finish before leaving the project.

💡 Use photo annotation for image-specific conditions.

💡 Review photos before changing important plan geometry.

💡 Delete duplicate or unusable photos so the gallery remains easy to navigate.

💡 Keep photos associated with the correct Space.

💡 Use the iOS share workflow when several photos need to be sent together.

Common Mistakes

Uploading the Wrong File Type on Web

The current Web uploader accepts JPEG images only.

Choose a JPEG before beginning the upload.

Leaving Before Uploads Finish

A photo may still be syncing when you leave the Space.

Check the upload-status badge before leaving the jobsite.
