The RENDR iOS app is designed to empower contractors by providing a simple and efficient way to capture interior space data using compatible LiDAR-equipped iOS devices.
Scanning Simplicity
The primary function of the app is to Capture Space.
Simply tap a button to begin the scan.
The app guides you to calibrate the camera by pointing it at the ceiling and floor.
Scanning involves slowly walking around the space, keeping the camera steady to capture walls, windows, and doors.
For larger or multi-room projects, start in a central location and walk continuously through doorways without stopping the scan.
There is no need to "paint" or move the device up and down; keeping it steady and moving left to right is the recommended method.
Generally, there's no need to rescan areas once the LiDAR has captured the data.
Ensuring good lighting and scanning each floor or distinct area as a separate project are recommended tips.
The app is designed to be faster and more automated than other tools.
Space Overview (After Scanning)
Immediately after scanning, the captured data is available for review and interaction within the app.
Interactive Floor Plan: An interactive floor plan is generated instantly. You can zoom in and out on spaces, pan across the plan, and see measurements and labels for elements like walls, windows, and doors.
Wall Elevations: The app provides detailed wall elevations. Reference markers on the floor plan to access drop-down elevations for each wall, including information about measurements for areas with varying ceiling heights.
Rooms & Parameters/Takeoffs: While parameters are currently pulled from the entire scan unless separate scans are linked, the Reports tab compiles general parameters about the space used by integration partners to build estimates quickly. (Note: The Reports tab cannot be modified directly in the app). Room-based parameters are an upcoming feature.
Photos: Include photos from the job site within the Photos tab. Adding photos as a batch after the initial scan is suggested.
Object Recognition: RENDR uses AI to automatically identify and place objects like sinks, toilets, kitchen appliances, furniture, and stairs on the floor plan, showing their location and size.
Integrations (via Exports and APIs)
RENDR enhances design and estimating workflows by syncing seamlessly with existing tools, making it easy to connect to your favorite estimating software.
Data can be shared from RENDR in several ways:
File Exports: Generate a PDF for digital markup and notes, useful for dimensions or sketching changes. Export directly to CAD software with options like DXF files compatible with AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, ProKitchen, and Soft Plan. A direct Export 2020 .xml option creates a file for instant import into 2020 Design Live®. These exports eliminate manual entry.
Direct Integrations (APIs): RENDR integrates directly with software like JobTread and Buildxact.
For JobTread, link your RENDR account in JobTread settings to sync project data (photos, plans, and parameters) directly. This allows for rapid estimate building using imported parameters within JobTread cost groups and budget templates. Parameters like square footage, perimeter, cabinet linear feet, or the number of sinks can automate quantity calculations for flooring, paint, vanity lights, and mirrors. Multiple RENDR scans can link to a single JobTread job. Future enhancements include room-based parameters.
For Buildxact, sync RENDR spaces to Buildxact projects for instant access to parameters usable in the calculator and takeoff tool.
More direct integrations with software like SketchUp and Revit are underway.
Invite to Capture Feature
This powerful tool allows remotely inviting someone (homeowner, project manager, etc.) to scan a space using their compatible iOS device.
The invitee does not need their own RENDR subscription.
Initiate the invite from the RENDR app or web application.
Enter the invitee's name and email and send the invitation.
The invitee receives an email with a link to download the RENDR app (if needed) and start the scan.
They simply walk around the space; the app handles the scanning.
Once complete, the data (floor plan, dimensions, photos, etc.) automatically appears in your RENDR account, and you receive a notification.
This feature enables remote engagement early in the sales cycle, saves time and travel costs, facilitates faster budget conversations, and allows for efficient change orders by having project managers scan additional areas. It is a "remote engagement tool".
