Reviewed for Flex Version 3.0
Overview
Navigation allows you to move around your floor plan without changing it.
As you work in Flex, you’ll frequently:
Zoom in for precise edits.
Pan to another area of the project.
Zoom back out to review the overall layout.
Learning these basic navigation controls will make editing faster and more efficient.
RENDR Principle
Navigate to the area you want to edit, then make your changes.
Zooming and panning only change your view of the floor plan—they never modify the drawing itself.
Zooming
Use zoom to control how much of the floor plan is visible.
Zoom in when you need to:
Edit walls or vertices
Place or adjust doors and windows
Modify flooring boundaries
Resize or move objects
Review measurements
Zoom out when you want to:
Review the overall layout
Check room relationships
Verify wall alignment
Review your work before exporting
Panning
Panning moves your view across the drawing without changing the zoom level.
Use panning to move between rooms or different areas of a large project while maintaining your current level of detail.
Returning to the Full Floor Plan
If you’ve zoomed into a small area and want to see the entire project again:
Web: Click the 1:1 / Fit View button in the navigation controls.
iPhone & iPad: Pinch to zoom out until the entire floor plan is visible.
Returning to the full floor plan is a quick way to review your edits before continuing.
Navigation vs. Selection
Navigation and selection are two different actions.
Navigation changes what you’re looking at.
Selection tells Flex what you want to edit.
For example:
You can pan and zoom while a wall remains selected.
Selecting a different object does not change your zoom level.
Keeping these actions separate makes it easy to inspect your work without losing your selection.
Platform Controls
Web
Use any of the following:
Scroll wheel or trackpad to zoom
Click and drag an empty area of the canvas to pan
Zoom In, Zoom Out, and 1:1/Fit View buttons in the navigation panel
Pinch-to-zoom on supported trackpads
Zoom is centered around your cursor for quick navigation.
iPhone & iPad
Use familiar multi-touch gestures:
Pinch to zoom in or out
Drag to pan around the floor plan
Navigation remains available regardless of the current editing mode, making it easy to inspect different areas of your project as you work.
Best Practices
Review the entire floor plan before making your first edit.
Zoom in only as much as needed for the task.
After making major edits, zoom back out to verify the surrounding layout.
Keep the area you’re editing near the center of the screen whenever possible.
Common Mistakes
Staying Too Zoomed In
Working at a very high zoom level can make it difficult to see how your edits affect the surrounding rooms.
Staying Too Zoomed Out
Trying to make precise edits without zooming in often leads to selecting the wrong wall, object, or vertex.
Confusing Navigation with Selection
Moving around the drawing does not change what is selected. If editing tools aren’t appearing, make sure you’ve selected the item you want to modify.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I accidentally change my floor plan by navigating?
No. Zooming and panning only change your view of the drawing.
Why does my selected wall stay highlighted while I move around?
Selection and navigation are independent, allowing you to inspect different parts of the floor plan without losing your current selection.
What’s the fastest way to review my work?
After completing an edit, zoom back out and review the surrounding rooms before moving on.
