Overview
Objects add context to your floor plan by representing furniture, fixtures, appliances, cabinetry, and other items within a space.
Unlike doors, windows, and openings, objects are independent plan elements and are not attached to walls.
On iPhone and iPad, objects can be added from the available object libraries. On Web, existing objects can be selected and edited, but new objects cannot currently be added.
Add an Object (iPhone & iPad)
Objects can currently be added only from the iPhone and iPad apps.
T
o add an object:
Switch to Layout mode.
Open either the General or Kitchen/Bath object library.
Select the object you want to place.
Tap the desired location on the floor plan.
The object is added to the project and can immediately be moved, rotated, or resized.
Note: The Web editor can edit existing objects but does not currently support adding new ones.
Select an Object
To edit an object:
Click (Web) or tap (iPhone/iPad) the object.
Once selected, Flex displays the available editing controls.
On Web, the Attributes Panel identifies the selected object, while editing is performed using the controls displayed on the floor plan.
On iPhone & iPad, editing controls and available dimension labels appear as part of the object editing workflow.
Move an Object
To reposition an object:
Select the object.
Drag it to its new location.
As you move an object, Flex may provide snapping assistance to nearby walls, the grid, or other supported geometry to help with alignment.
On Web, Flex prevents moving an object into an invalid location, such as through a wall or overlapping another object.
Rotate an Object
To rotate an object:
Select the object.
Drag the rotation control.
On iPhone and iPad, rotation snaps in 5-degree increments to help maintain consistent alignment.
On Web, use the on-canvas rotation control to adjust the object’s orientation.
Resize an Object
Many objects can be resized directly on the floor plan.
To resize an object:
Select the object.
Drag one of the object’s corner resize handles.
For supported objects, you can also edit displayed dimensions directly.
On iPhone & iPad, tap an editable width or depth measurement, enter the new value, and confirm the change.
On Web, edit the displayed width and depth measurements directly on the canvas.
Flex prevents resizing an object if the new size would overlap a wall or another object.
💡Pro Tip: When an exact size is known, entering the measurement directly is often faster than resizing by dragging.
Use Object Snapping
As you move objects, Flex may provide snapping assistance to help align them within the floor plan.
Depending on the situation, objects may snap to:
Walls
The movement grid
Other supported geometry
Snapping helps create cleaner layouts while reducing manual alignment.
Include or Exclude an Object from Flooring Calculations
Some object types can be included in or excluded from flooring calculations.
To change this setting:
Select the object.
Use the available flooring exclusion control for that object.
Review an object’s flooring setting before generating flooring calculations to ensure the desired objects are included or excluded.
Edit an Existing Object (Web)
The Web editor supports editing objects that already exist in the project.
You can:
Move the object.
Rotate the object.
Resize the object.
Edit supported width and depth measurements directly on the floor plan.
Change flooring exclusion where supported.
The Attributes Panel identifies the selected object but is read-only.
If an Object Doesn’t Behave as Expected
If you’re unable to edit an object:
Confirm the object is selected.
Zoom in before making precise adjustments.
Check whether snapping is affecting the object’s position.
Verify the object supports the edit you’re attempting.
Some editing controls vary by object type.
Best Practices
Complete major wall edits before placing objects.
Use objects to communicate the layout and function of a space.
Let snapping assist with alignment.
Enter exact dimensions when they are known.
Review object placement before exporting or presenting the floor plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add objects in the Web editor?
No.
Objects can currently be added only on iPhone and iPad.
Existing objects can be edited in the Web editor.
Can every object be resized?
No.
Available editing controls depend on the selected object.
Do objects affect room calculations?
Objects do not change a room’s boundaries or calculated area.
However, certain object types contribute to room parameters. For example, qualifying storage objects and plumbing fixtures may be included in Kitchen & Bath room calculations. Objects can also be included in or excluded from flooring calculations where supported.
Why won’t my object move or resize?
Flex prevents objects from moving or resizing into unsupported locations, such as overlapping another object or extending through a wall.
Some editing capabilities also depend on the selected object type.
