Overview
As you edit your floor plan, Flex automatically snaps many actions to nearby geometry.
For example:
Walls snap together to create clean corners.
Flooring vertices snap to walls.
Custom dimensions snap to corners and edges.
Objects snap against walls.
Rotations snap in 5° increments.
Most of the time, these snaps make editing faster and more accurate.
Occasionally, however, you’ll want to temporarily disable a particular snap so you can make a precise adjustment.
Opening Snap Settings
iPhone & iPad
Open the editor.
Tap Settings.
Review the available Snap Settings.
Turn individual snap behaviors on or off as needed.
Changes take effect immediately and remain in effect until you change them again.
Web
The Web editor does not have individual Snap Settings.
Instead, hold the Shift key while dragging to temporarily disable snapping for the current action. Releasing Shift immediately restores normal snapping behavior.
Vertex Angles
Controls angle snapping while moving wall vertices.
When enabled, walls tend to align to clean 5° angle increments, making it easier to maintain straight, square floor plans.
You might temporarily disable this when matching an unusual existing condition that isn’t perfectly square.
Floor Angles
Controls angle snapping while editing Flooring Areas.
When enabled, flooring boundaries snap to clean angles as you move vertices.
This is especially helpful when tracing rectangular or angled flooring layouts.
Dimension Angles
Controls angle snapping while creating Custom Dimensions.
When enabled, custom dimensions naturally align horizontally, vertically, or along common angles.
Turn this off if you need to place a dimension at an unusual angle.
Floor Vertices
Controls whether flooring vertices snap to nearby flooring geometry and wall boundaries while editing.
Keeping this enabled makes it easier to create clean flooring polygons without small gaps or overlaps.
If you’re making a very small adjustment, temporarily turning this off may provide more freedom.
Movement
Controls movement snapping while dragging walls, objects, and other editable items.
When enabled, movement occurs in consistent measurement increments, helping maintain clean geometry.
The current movement increment is displayed within the Settings panel.
Symbols
Controls snapping when placing blueprint symbols.
With snapping enabled, symbols align neatly against nearby walls and geometry.
Turning it off allows completely free placement.
When Should I Change Snap Settings?
Most users can leave every Snap Setting enabled.
Consider changing them only when:
Matching irregular existing construction.
Adjusting flooring around complex geometry.
Placing dimensions at unusual angles.
Positioning symbols exactly where automatic snapping isn’t desired.
Making very small edits that snapping prevents.
After completing the adjustment, it’s usually best to turn snapping back on.
Support Clues
My Wall Won’t Move Exactly Where I Want
Try temporarily disabling Vertex Angles or Movement snapping.
My Flooring Vertex Keeps Jumping
Try turning off Floor Vertices snapping while making the adjustment.
Turn it back on afterward to maintain clean flooring geometry.
My Dimension Won’t Stay at the Angle I Want
Disable Dimension Angles snapping before placing the Custom Dimension.
My Object Keeps Snapping Against the Wall
On Web, hold Shift while dragging.
On iPhone or iPad, temporarily disable Movement snapping if needed.
Best Practices
💡 Leave snapping enabled unless it is preventing the edit you’re trying to make.
💡 Re-enable snapping after making a freeform adjustment.
💡 Use snapping to create cleaner wall connections and flooring boundaries.
💡 If snapping seems to be preventing an edit, zoom in first—sometimes the issue is easier to understand at a closer zoom level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I leave Snap Settings on?
Yes.
Most editing workflows work best with snapping enabled.
Can I turn off just one type of snapping?
Yes.
On iPhone and iPad, each snap behavior can be enabled or disabled independently from the Settings panel.
How do I temporarily disable snapping on Web?
Hold Shift while dragging.
Release Shift to immediately restore snapping.
Why does Flex snap things in the first place?
Snapping helps keep walls connected, flooring aligned, dimensions readable, and objects positioned accurately, reducing the amount of cleanup required later.
