Overview
Most floor plans require very little wall creation.
Because Flex begins with a captured scan, you’ll typically spend your time editing existing walls rather than drawing new ones.
Occasionally, however, you’ll need to add new geometry.
Common examples include:
A missing closet wall
An overlooked partition
A new room separation
Completing an unfinished scan
Correcting a major scan omission
Drawing walls in Flex is designed to feel simple, but there are a few best practices that will help produce much cleaner floor plans.

Always connect new walls to existing geometry whenever possible.
Connected walls create better rooms, cleaner measurements, and more accurate exports.
Before You Draw
Before creating a new wall, ask yourself:
“Does this wall already exist?”
Many users initially assume they need to draw a wall when the existing wall simply needs to be extended.
If a wall is already present—even if it’s slightly short—editing the existing endpoint usually produces cleaner geometry than drawing a second wall.
If no wall exists, drawing a new one is the correct approach.
💡 Pro Tip: If you only need another foot or two of wall, extend the existing wall rather than drawing a separate segment.
You’ll end up with fewer joints and cleaner room detection.
Starting a New Wall
To draw a wall:

To draw a new wall:
Open the desired Space.
Switch to Edit mode.
Select Layout.
Click the blue Toolbox button in the lower-left corner.
Select Walls & Features.
Choose Wall.
Click where the wall should begin.
Drag to the desired endpoint.
Release the mouse button to create the wall.
The Wall tool remains active after each wall is placed, allowing you to continue drawing additional walls. When you’re finished, return to the Select tool.
iPhone & iPad
To draw a new wall:
Open the desired Space.
Switch to Layout mode.
Tap the blue Toolbox button in the lower-left corner.
Tap Walls & Features.
Select Wall.
Press where the wall should begin.
Drag toward the desired endpoint.
Lift your finger to create the wall.
The Wall tool remains active after each wall is placed, allowing you to continue drawing additional walls. When you’re finished, return to the Select tool.
While Drawing
As you drag a wall, Flex displays a live preview including:
the wall being created
snap indicators
the current wall length

Press and hold at the wall’s starting point, drag to the endpoint, and release to create one wall segment.
While drawing on Web, Flex always applies 5-degree angle snapping. Holding Shift will disable angle snapping during wall creation.
The Wall Tool remains active after you release, so you can immediately press, drag, and release again to add another wall. Return to the Select Tool when you are finished drawing.
iPad & iPhone
Press at the starting point, drag to preview the wall, and release to create one wall segment.
On iPhone and iPad, Flex applies the enabled vertex, wall-line, angle, and movement-grid snap settings while you draw. Very short wall gestures may be discarded to prevent unstable wall segments.
The Wall Tool remains active until you choose the Select Tool or another tool.
Connecting to Existing Walls
The best wall is one that becomes part of the existing floor plan.
As you approach existing geometry, Flex displays color-coded snapping feedback:
• Green indicates a connection to an existing wall vertex or corner.
• Amber or yellow indicates a connection to the edge of an existing wall, creating a T-junction.
• Blue indicates a free endpoint or an angle-snapped endpoint that is not connected to another wall.
Wait for the intended connection indicator before releasing the wall.
This tells Flex that the new wall should become part of the surrounding geometry rather than existing independently.
💡 Pro Tip: Don’t stop just because the endpoints visually touch. Watch for the snap confirmation.
A properly connected wall behaves very differently than two walls that merely appear to meet.
🚫 Avoid This
Drawing a wall until it’s “close enough.”
Even tiny gaps can prevent rooms from forming correctly.
Creating Wall Intersections
New walls don’t always end at corners.
Sometimes they intersect another wall midway through.
For example:
Hallway intersections
Closets
Pantry walls
Interior partitions
When you draw into the middle of an existing wall and see the amber or yellow wall-edge indicator, Flex automatically creates the proper T-junction and updates the surrounding geometry.
You don’t need to manually split the wall first.

Walls in Flex aren’t simply centerlines.
Every wall has thickness.
As walls connect, Flex automatically creates clean corner joins so the finished plan represents actual construction rather than overlapping lines.

After Drawing a Wall
Once a new wall has been added, take a few moments to review the surrounding area.
Ask yourself:
Did the wall connect correctly?
Did the room update?
Does the wall direction look correct?
Are nearby doors still correct?
Does the new wall create the intended space?
Small reviews now prevent much larger corrections later.
If the Room Doesn’t Appear
A newly drawn wall should usually update nearby rooms automatically.
If it doesn’t:
✔ Zoom in.
✔ Check every connection point.
✔ Verify the wall isn’t stopping just short of another wall.
✔ Confirm the wall is not crossing or overlapping existing geometry. Flex will not create a wall that crosses or overlaps another wall.
✔ Review whether the wall should connect to another nearby wall, and make sure you are snapping to the wall itself—not to a door, window, or opening. New walls cannot attach directly to a DWO.
Most room detection issues are caused by incomplete wall connections rather than the wall itself.

Common Mistakes
Creating Tiny Gaps
Tiny gaps are difficult to notice but can prevent room detection and affect downstream calculations.
Using Too Many Wall Segments
A simple room should generally be made from a small number of connected walls rather than dozens of tiny pieces.
Cleaner geometry is easier to edit later.
