Overview

Flex automatically displays measurements throughout the floor plan as you work.

Many of these measurements are editable, allowing you to enter precise values instead of making adjustments by dragging.

As the floor plan changes, Flex automatically updates displayed measurements to reflect the current geometry.

Edit a Wall Using a Measurement

Many wall measurements can be edited directly from the floor plan.

To edit a wall using a measurement:

  1. Select the wall.

  2. Click (Web) or tap (iPhone/iPad) an editable measurement.

  3. Enter the new value.

  4. Confirm the change.

Flex updates the wall geometry to match the measurement you entered.

💡 Pro Tip: If you already know the desired measurement, entering the value directly is usually faster than dragging the wall into position.

Edit a Door, Window, or Opening

Many wall features also support direct measurement editing.

To edit a door, window, or opening:

  1. Select the feature.

  2. Click or tap an editable measurement.

  3. Enter the new value.

  4. Confirm the edit.

Depending on the platform and selected feature, editable measurements may include:

  • Width

  • Centerline distance

  • Distance to a nearby wall

Flex updates the selected feature while maintaining valid wall geometry whenever possible.

Edit Supported Objects

Some objects expose editable measurements directly on the floor plan.

To edit an object:

  1. Select the object.

  2. Click or tap an editable measurement.

  3. Enter the new value.

  4. Confirm the edit.

The available measurements depend on the selected object.

Move Geometry Using Measurements

Not every editable measurement changes the size of the selected item.

Some measurements control the distance between pieces of geometry.

For example, when a wall is selected, editing the measurement between that wall and a nearby wall moves the wall until the specified distance is achieved.

This allows you to position walls precisely without dragging them into place.

Understand Which Measurements Can Be Edited

Not every displayed measurement is editable.

Editable measurements appear when supported walls, objects, or features are selected.

Some displayed measurements exist only to communicate information and cannot be changed directly.

If a displayed measurement cannot be selected, edit the associated wall, object, or feature instead.

Enter Measurements

The way measurements are entered depends on your platform.

Web

  1. Click an editable measurement.

  2. Type the new value.

  3. Press Enter to apply the change.

Press Escape before pressing Enter to cancel the edit.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Tap an editable measurement.

  2. The Measurement Keypad opens automatically.

  3. Enter the new value.

  4. Tap Done.

The keypad automatically matches your current measurement display format.

Change Your Measurement Display Format

Your measurement display format determines how measurements appear throughout Flex.

Web

To change the measurement display:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Select User Preferences.

  3. Choose your preferred Measurement Display Preference.

Available options include:

  • Feet-Inches

  • Inches

  • Millimeters

  • Meters

The new format is applied throughout the Web editor.

iPhone & iPad

To change the measurement display:

  1. From the Projects screen, tap your profile icon.

  2. Open Settings.

  3. Under Display Measurements, choose your preferred format.

Available options include:

  • Feet-Inches

  • Inches

  • Millimeters

  • Meters

The selected format updates measurement displays throughout the app and changes the layout of the Measurement Keypad.

Review Measurements After Editing

Flex automatically updates displayed measurements whenever geometry changes.

For example:

  • Moving a wall updates nearby wall measurements.

  • Editing a wall feature updates its displayed measurements.

  • Changing wall geometry updates related measurements throughout the surrounding layout.

Review nearby measurements after making significant edits to confirm the floor plan reflects the intended layout.

If a Measurement Can’t Be Edited

If clicking or tapping a measurement doesn’t allow editing:

  • Confirm the correct wall, object, or feature is selected.

  • Verify you’re using the appropriate editing tool.

  • Check whether the displayed measurement is informational rather than editable.

  • Select the item again and try editing the measurement.

Not every displayed measurement supports direct editing.

Best Practices

  • Enter measurements directly whenever you know the desired value.

  • Use dragging for rough positioning and direct measurement editing for precise adjustments.

  • Review nearby measurements after making significant layout changes.

  • Use a consistent measurement display format throughout your project.

Common Mistakes

Selecting the Wrong Measurement

Some items display multiple measurements.

Before entering a value, confirm you’re editing the measurement that controls the change you want to make.

Using Dragging for Precise Adjustments

Dragging is useful for positioning geometry visually.

When an editable measurement is available, entering the value directly provides more precise control.

Ignoring Updated Measurements

Changing one measurement may update other related measurements automatically.

Review the surrounding layout after making significant edits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can every displayed measurement be edited?

No.

Only measurements that control editable geometry can be modified directly.

Other measurements are displayed for reference.

Why did another measurement change?

Measurements always reflect the current geometry.

When geometry changes, related measurements update automatically.

Why won’t the value I entered work?

The requested measurement may not be possible because of the surrounding geometry or other editing constraints.

Review nearby walls, objects, or wall features, then try another value.
