Overview

Flex supports two types of rotation:

What you want to do

Rotation Type

Turn the entire floor plan

Rotate Floor Plan

Turn an Object

Object Rotation

Turn a Text annotation

Text Rotation

Change the angle of a Line or Arrow

Markup Rotation

Control whether rotations snap to angles

Rotation Snap Setting

Rotating the entire floor plan changes the orientation of the complete plan.

Rotating an individual item changes only that selected Object or Markup item.

Rotating the Entire Floor Plan

Use Rotate Floor Plan when the entire plan is oriented differently than you want it displayed or exported.

The command rotates the actual plan data by 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise. It does not simply rotate your view of the plan.

Walls, doors, windows, openings, Objects, Flooring Areas, Rooms, dimensions and Markup rotate together.

Measurements and quantities do not change simply because the plan was rotated. Wall lengths, Room areas, dimension readings and heights remain the same.

Rotating the Entire Plan on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Space in Flex.

  2. Open the editor Options.

  3. Find Floorplan.

  4. Choose either:

    • Rotate 90° Clockwise, or

    • Rotate 90° Counter-clockwise.

  5. Review the new orientation.

Each tap rotates the entire plan one quarter-turn.

There is no custom angle picker for whole-plan rotation. Whole-plan rotation occurs in 90° increments.

Undoing a Plan Rotation

Each 90° rotation is one Undo operation.

If you rotate the plan in the wrong direction, use Undo or rotate it again until it reaches the desired orientation.

On iOS, each rotation is also automatically saved.

Rotating the Entire Plan on Web

On Web:

  1. Open the Space in the Flex editor.

  2. Locate the rotation controls in the top mode bar.

  3. Choose:

    • Rotate 90° counter-clockwise, or

    • Rotate 90° clockwise.

  4. Review the new orientation.

Each click rotates the entire plan 90° and creates one Undo step.

What Happens When You Rotate the Entire Plan?

Whole-plan rotation moves the entire plan together.

That includes:

  • Walls

  • Doors

  • Windows

  • Openings

  • Objects

  • Flooring geometry

  • Rooms

  • Dimensions

  • Text

  • Markup geometry

The rotation is persistent—it is not just a temporary canvas orientation.

The rotated orientation remains when the plan is reopened and carries into supported outputs including PDF, DXF, 3D and Elevation views.

What Does NOT Change?

Rotating the entire plan does not change:

  • Wall lengths

  • Room areas

  • Dimension values

  • Heights

  • Room names

You’re changing the plan’s orientation, not its size or measured geometry.

Rotating an Object

Object rotation is different from whole-plan rotation.

Use Object rotation when an individual item—such as a piece of furniture, fixture, or other supported Object—needs to face a different direction.

On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Select the Object.

  2. Locate its rotation control.

  3. Drag the rotation control.

  4. Rotate the Object to the desired angle.

  5. Release to place it.

When Rotation snapping is enabled, the Object’s rotation snaps to supported angle increments. The new Rotation setting controls Object rotation snapping.

Rotate Freely Without Snapping

If the Object keeps snapping to an angle you don’t want:

  1. Open the editor’s Settings/Tools.

  2. Find the Rotation snap setting.

  3. Turn Rotation off.

  4. Return to the Object.

  5. Rotate it to the desired angle.

Rotating Text

Text annotations can be rotated so the label follows a wall, feature, or other angled element on the plan.

On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Enter Markup.

  2. Select the Text annotation.

  3. Locate the rotation handle.

  4. Drag the handle.

  5. Rotate the Text to the desired angle.

  6. Release.

The Text rotation is saved and remains after reopening the plan.

Editing Rotated Text

When you edit the contents of rotated Text, the Text temporarily straightens while you’re typing.

Once you finish editing, Flex reapplies its saved rotation.

Rotating Lines and Arrows

Lines and Arrows can be drawn at an angle and can also be re-angled after placement in Flex 3.0.3.

To change the angle of an existing Line or Arrow:

  1. Enter Markup.

  2. Select the Line or Arrow.

  3. Use its available editing control to change its angle.

  4. Move it to the desired angle.

  5. Release to finish.

The Line or Arrow keeps its updated orientation.

Drawing Lines and Arrows at an Angle

When creating a new Line or Arrow:

  1. Enter Markup.

  2. Choose Line or Arrow.

  3. Press where the annotation should begin.

  4. Drag toward the desired endpoint.

  5. Release.

When Rotation snapping is enabled, the line snaps to supported angles as you draw.

On iOS, Flex provides light haptic feedback when the drawing crosses a snap angle.

Understanding the Rotation Setting

Flex includes a Rotation snap setting on iOS.

This setting controls angle snapping for:

  • Object rotation

  • Symbol rotation

  • Shape drawing

The setting lets you decide whether these elements should snap to common angles or rotate/draw more freely.

Turn Rotation Snapping Off

Use this when you need an exact visual angle that doesn’t match the normal snap positions.

  1. Open the editor’s Settings/Tools.

  2. Locate Rotation.

  3. Turn Rotation off.

  4. Return to the item.

  5. Rotate or draw it at the desired angle.

Turn Rotation Snapping On

Use this when you want Objects or Markup to align cleanly to standard angles.

  1. Open Settings/Tools.

  2. Locate Rotation.

  3. Turn Rotation on.

  4. Rotate or draw the item.

Rotation vs. Other Snap Settings

Rotation is only one type of snapping in Flex.

Turning Rotation snapping off does not turn off every type of snapping.

For example, Flex has separate snapping controls for other workflows such as flooring, dimensions, vertices and Symbols.

If you’re trying to change how something snaps rather than how it rotates, see Understanding Snap Settings.

Troubleshooting Rotation

I Want to Turn the Entire Floor Plan

Don’t select individual walls or Objects.

iPhone/iPad:Options → Floorplan → Rotate 90° Clockwise / Counter-clockwise

Web:
Use the 90° rotation controls in the top mode bar.

My Object Keeps Jumping to Certain Angles

Rotation snapping is likely enabled.

On iOS, open the applicable Settings/Tools panel and turn Rotation off, then rotate the Object again.

My Line or Arrow Keeps Snapping While I Draw

On iOS, angle snapping is controlled by the Rotation setting.

Turn Rotation off if you need to draw the annotation without angle snapping.

I Rotated Text but It Is Horizontal in My PDF

This is a current export limitation.

Text rotation is stored and displayed in Flex, but server-generated PDF and DXF exports currently render rotated Text horizontally.

I Rotated the Entire Plan and My Measurements Changed

Whole-plan rotation itself does not change measurements.

The rotation is rigid: wall lengths, Room areas, dimensions and heights remain unchanged.

If a value changed, review whether another geometry edit was made in addition to the rotation.

I Don’t See the Whole-Plan Rotation Option on iOS

Whole-plan rotation can be used in both View and Edit modes.

However, the option is temporarily hidden while:

  • A Floor Cut is partially drawn, or

  • An Auto Clean preview is active.

Finish or cancel the active operation, then reopen the Options menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rotate the entire floor plan?
Yes. Flex 3.0.3 supports 90° clockwise and counter-clockwise whole-plan rotation on iOS and Web.

Does rotating the plan change my measurements?
No. Whole-plan rotation does not change wall lengths, Room areas, dimension values, or heights.

Is rotating the plan the same as rotating the view?
No. Flex rotates the actual plan data, so the new orientation persists when the plan is reopened and in supported outputs.

Can I rotate the plan to any angle?
No. Whole-plan rotation is in 90° increments.

Can I rotate individual Objects?
Yes. Supported Objects can be rotated independently of the floor plan.

Can I rotate Text?
Yes. Text annotations support rotation. Rotated Text currently renders horizontally in server-generated PDF and DXF exports.

Can I change the angle of a Line or Arrow after drawing it?
Yes. Flex 3.0.3 allows placed Lines and Arrows to be re-angled.

How do I turn off rotation snapping?
On iOS, open the editor’s Settings/Tools and turn Rotation off. This controls angle snapping for Object rotation, Symbol rotation, and supported shape drawing.
